This bead is the companion to N-091025-5E — the same Five Eye motif, wave bands and very deep dark brown ground.

It is a new Taiwan dzi in natural agate, with bold cream-white lines on a ground that reads nearly black with a faint warm undertone. One face carries three eyes in a row between vertical dividers, the other two eyes; a continuous wave band runs between them. The faces appear in a slightly different order from its companion's — a small, natural variation of hand finishing.

At 41.2mm × 11.4mm it matches its companion (40.5mm × 11.4mm) almost exactly. The form is a standard barrel with rounded, tapered ends; the drill holes are clean, with a warm honey-brown surround. No cracks or chips. The two make a well-matched pair.

This is a new bead, made in Taiwan within roughly the last 20 years using the traditional dzi crafting technique.

The Five Eye Motif

The Five Eye dzi (五眼天珠) is associated with the blessings of Kubera, deity of wealth and guardian of the north, and is said to bring lasting good fortune, long life and contentment. Five is linked with the five elements and five directions.
