Five Eye Motif, 41.2×11.4mm, very dark brown agate (N-091125-5E2)
🔍 Unretouched photos. 📐 Dimensions verified. ✅ Described from direct observation.
This bead is the companion to N-091025-5E — the same five eye motif, the same wave-band construction, and the same very deep dark brown ground, with three eyes on one face this time and two on the other.
This is a new Taiwan-crafted dzi bead in natural agate, carrying the Five Eye motif in bold cream-white lines against a very deep dark brown ground. The ground reads close to black in flat light but carries a faint warm brown undertone confirmed from the white-background photographs — the same colour character as its companion piece. The cream-white eye rings and dividing bars are crisp and well-proportioned.
The five eyes split across two faces. One face carries three eye rings in a row, flanked by vertical divider bars; the opposite face carries two eye rings with the same divider treatment. Between these two faces, a continuous wave or zigzag band runs the length of the bead, connecting the two eye groupings as the bead is turned. This is the identical construction found on its sibling piece, though the rotation order in which the faces present themselves differs slightly between the two beads — a natural variation of hand-finishing within the same production batch rather than a difference in design.
The form is a standard barrel with gently tapered, rounded ends, matching the sibling bead almost exactly in proportion: 41.2mm in length against the sibling's 40.5mm, with an identical 11.4mm diameter. The drill holes are visible in Images 6 and 7 — standard size, clean, with a warm honey-brown end cap surround. The surface is smooth and well-finished throughout. No cracks or chips are present — this is my own observation from all six photo angles.
The Five Eye Motif
The five eye dzi is associated with the blessings of Kuvera, the deity of wealth and guardian of the northern direction in both Hindu and Buddhist tradition. The five eyes are said to channel sustained good fortune, longevity, and contentment to the wearer — five being a number connected to the five elements and the five directions in Himalayan cosmology. Paired with its near-identical companion bead, this piece continues the same symbolic and visual tradition, suited to being worn or displayed together as a matched set.
