There is no point on this bead where an eye ends and a connector begins. The cream line that forms the top of one circle runs straight into the bar linking it to the next, which curves into the side of another, which flows down into a fourth. The nine eyes are not nine separate elements but one continuous cream network — a single unbroken path that loops and steps around the whole bead, forming nine circles along the way. Trace the line from any eye and you arrive at every other.

That integration is what marks a well-made nine eye. On weaker pieces, eyes and connectors are drawn separately and merely touch; here the geometry holds together as one system. At 54.0mm × 12.3mm the bead gives the layout room to breathe, without the crowding of shorter pieces.

The palette is warmer than many nine eyes. The ground is a rich, deep chocolate-brown with visible depth rather than near-black, and the cream lines carry a slight honey warmth. The end caps are smooth, polished amber-brown agate with small centred drill holes. Close up, every face shows fine micro-pitting and weathering — quiet evidence of two to four centuries of existence.

The Nine Eye Motif

The Nine Eye dzi (九眼天珠) is the most sought-after motif in the dzi tradition and is often called the king of dzi. In Tibetan Buddhism nine represents completeness — the fullest expression of merit and protection. Business people across Asia have long regarded it as the most auspicious dzi to own, associating it with wealth, the removal of obstacles and protection in every area of life. It is a bead to be worn, not just collected.
