The nine eyes on this bead sit against a ground so deep it reads as almost black — but both ends tell a different story, warming to rich reddish-brown where the stone meets the drill.

This is a newly crafted Taiwan dzi, made within roughly the last twenty years, finished in high-quality natural agate. The two-zone ground is confirmed from white-background photos at both the end caps and the body: warm reddish-brown tones at each drilled end give way to a very deep dark brown through the central body — a near-black that the agate's natural banding makes unmistakably brown rather than true black. The nine eye motif is etched in clean, consistent cream, with the stepped connecting lines running the full length of the bead in a precise geometric pattern.

Surface finish is smooth and well-polished across both the darker central ground and the warmer end caps, with a consistent gloss throughout. The drill channel is centered and cleanly executed at both ends, consistent with standard contemporary drilling. No cracks, chips, or surface damage are visible in any of the photos; the bead presents in excellent ready-to-wear condition.
