Ten eyes on a warm brown ground — and not a single one of them catches the light.

The surface of this bead is matte throughout. There is no gloss on the body, no shine on the motif lines, no reflective zone to anchor your eye. What you get instead is the full warmth of the brown agate itself — a medium warm brown that reads differently in every light, the cream eye rings sitting against it without competing for brightness. The ten eyes are connected by a continuous wave-and-bar line that shifts as the bead turns: from the face it reads as a structured sequence, from the side it opens into broader, more organic arcs between the circles. The composition does not repeat from any two angles.

Ten eyes run from one end to the other — four on the primary face, three on the reverse, with the remaining eyes distributed across the two side faces, the connecting line wrapping continuously around the full circumference. The bead is fusiform at 58.3mm, with a pronounced taper toward both matte warm brown drill ends. The end-cap stripes match the body tone exactly: no colour shift, no contrasting zone, the same warm medium brown running to both tips.

The crafting tradition here is the same warm-brown matte family as several other pieces in this collection — a style characterised by the matte surface, the warmer ground colour, and the continuous connecting wave structure between eyes. It is a quieter aesthetic than the high-gloss black-ground pieces, and the ten-eye count makes it the most complex motif in this format currently in the collection.

The Ten Eye Motif

The ten eye dzi (十眼天珠) is among the rarer eye-count configurations in the Tibetan dzi tradition. Ten eyes carry associations with the Ten Perfections (Pāramitās) of Mahayana Buddhist practice — generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, skillful means, aspiration, power, and primordial awareness — the complete set of qualities cultivated on the path to enlightenment. A ten eye bead is understood to support the wearer across all ten dimensions of spiritual development simultaneously, making it a bead associated with completeness, advancement on the path, and the full flowering of the bodhisattva ideal. It is also associated with protection from obstacles across all directions and all levels of existence.
