Modern Reproduction Antique-style Nine Eye Motif Dzi Bead (A3)
Modern Reproduction Antique-style Nine Eye Motif Dzi Bead (A3)
We never retouch our photos. What you see is exactly what you will receive.
This bead is vintage, not antique. Crafted before the year 2000 with a deliberate antique-style finish, it has since picked up over two decades of its own genuine age — and we want that distinction clear from the first line.
This is the third piece in our vintage nine-eye family, and it shares its siblings' continuous S-meander composition: three open C-ring eyes per lateral face, joined by an unbroken stepped line that travels the full circumference of the bead. Where this piece diverges from the other two is in its particulars, and those particulars are worth naming rather than glossing over.
This bead runs shorter and noticeably slimmer than both companions — 57.2mm against 56.5mm and 57.4mm in length, and 12.4mm against 13.6mm and 13.8mm in diameter — a real difference in proportion you'll feel immediately if you handle all three side by side; this is the narrowest of the family. The ground colour reads warm olive-grey to dark brown across every flat-lit photograph in this set, distinctly lighter and warmer than the deep black ground of V-FA-062026-9E, and without the warmer transition zones near the caps that mark V-FA-062026-9E2. Both end caps on this bead are clean: one vivid orange-red, the other warm honey-orange to amber-gold, each with a round, unobstructed drill opening at the centre. Neither tip shows the irregular, rougher drill opening disclosed on the second piece in this family — that is specific to that bead, not this one.
We're disclosing all of this the same way we disclose the bead's overall age category: directly. This is not a centuries-old antique dzi. It was made with that visual tradition in mind, sometime before 2000, and what you're buying today is a piece that has now genuinely aged for twenty-plus years past its original finishing — different from both a brand-new reproduction and from a verified antique with documented centuries of provenance.
In terms of form, the bead is an elongated barrel with smoothly rounded shoulders, tapering gently at both drilled ends. Fine reddish-orange flecking appears scattered within the honey-gold passages of the motif on several photographs — this is natural variation within the agate itself, not cinnabar, and no bloodspot inclusions are visible anywhere in this photo set. Surface gloss is even and consistent across both lateral faces, with no cracks, chips, or medicine digs visible at any angle.
The Nine Eye Motif
In Tibetan dzi tradition, the Nine Eye is regarded as the most complete of all dzi motifs — sometimes called the king of dzi designs. Nine is read as a number of totality, drawing together the protective and prosperity-bringing qualities attributed to dzi beads in general into a single concentrated design. Worn or kept close, the Nine Eye is traditionally associated with the gathering of good fortune across every aspect of life it touches.
