The cream on this bead is not the same cream as on a younger piece.

At macro scale — documented in images 6 through 9 — the cream zones show age-consistent surface crystallisation throughout: a fine, granular matte texture that develops as the agate's mineral structure reorders itself over centuries. The dark body zones show their own age signature alongside it: rough micro-pitting and a fine craquelure network across the surface, the dark ground having settled and contracted over five to eight centuries of time. These two textures — the granular matte cream and the rough pitted dark — are what separate a bead of this age from a younger one with the same motif layout. The structure of the nine eyes is identical. The surface is not.

The nine eyes are arranged in a stacked two-row layout across each face, with S-curve cream lines connecting the columns between them — the same arrangement seen on antique pieces in this series, here carried on a significantly older stone. The ground is three-toned: very deep dark brown through the body zones, warm sandy cream throughout the motif, and warm brown at the end caps, which are smooth and slightly translucent against the matte body zones. The cream lines have taken on a slightly warm sandy tone over the centuries — no longer the clean white of a newer piece but something settled and aged into the stone.

Both drill holes are small and clean with no chipping at the rim. No cracks or chips are present anywhere on the bead. The motif lines are intact throughout. A rotating video is included documenting all faces.

The Nine Eye Motif

The nine eye dzi (九眼天珠) is regarded in Tibetan Buddhist tradition as the most powerful of all dzi bead motifs. Nine eyes correspond to the nine-fold path to enlightenment and to the nine planets of classical Tibetan cosmology, and a bead carrying this count is understood to attract the blessings of all nine simultaneously — drawing in wealth, extending protection, and eliminating obstacles across every domain of life. At this age range the bead has passed through many hands and many decades of active use before reaching the present, each generation of custodianship adding to the depth of its history.
