Many of the antique double wave dzi in this collection are long torpedoes, close to 50mm, the wave spreading across nearly five centimetres of agate with ample room for each S-curve to resolve. This bead is 28.4mm long and 10.6mm in diameter, one of the most compact double wave beads in the collection, and arguably more demanding to make: the same two-wave composition, two opposing S-curves interlocking across the face, resolved into roughly half the length. The craftsman had less room. The waves did not shrink to fit it. They are fully formed and proportionally bolder for occupying a smaller field.

Compact dzi have their own rewards: the visual weight of the composition per millimetre is higher, and the bead sits differently in the hand, more immediate and concentrated. At 28.4mm it sits entirely within the palm.

The ground is a mid-to-deep warm brown, settled and consistent, with good depth. The cream wave lines are strongly resolved: the two S-curves are clearly distinct from each other and from the ground, each reading as a complete shape before the eye sees how they interlock. Where the two waves meet at the centre, the composition tightens and its logic is clearest: two movements crossing through a single point, continuing on opposite paths.

Vertical stripes flank the double wave on both sides, framing the face and containing the wave's horizontal energy. At this scale they read as emphatic borders, making each face feel complete. Both end caps are natural brown agate with intact, well-centred drill holes. The surface carries weathering marks and minor digs consistent with 200 to 300 years of age. No cracks. No bloodspots.

The Double Wave motif is associated with never-ending success: the wave that does not break, the momentum that does not stop. It is also read as the Tiger Teeth motif; both readings point toward forward force and persistence.
