On an elongated barrel, the double wave doesn't run across the bead — it spirals around it.

The motif on each of these three beads is the same: two interlocking wave bands in deep dark grey-brown to near-black, running the full length of the barrel in a continuous diagonal movement that wraps rather than crosses. The ground between the wave bands is warm sandy-cream to honey-tan, the dominant element on every face — the dark wave zones reading as bold markings within a pale field rather than pale lines on a dark body. The combination is graphic and high-contrast, the cream ground making the dark wave bands read at their sharpest.

The three beads share the same colour relationship but not the same colour distribution. The warm brown tone that runs through each bead — present in the wave zones, the end caps, and the transitions between cream and dark — does not always behave uniformly from one end to the other. On some beads it starts darker at one tip and softens toward the other; the middle bead of the three carries the deepest, most consistently dark brown throughout. These are natural agate variations across three beads from the same production group, and they give the set a quiet internal differentiation that becomes visible when the three are placed side by side, as Images 2 and 3 show clearly.

The end caps on all three are warm honey-brown to chocolate-brown — a distinctly warmer and darker tone than the cream-dominant body — and the drill holes are small and cleanly centred, visible in both photographs. All three beads are elongated fusiform barrel in form, measuring between 37.5–39.4mm in length and 10.8–11.6mm in diameter, with a high-gloss surface throughout. No cracks, chips, or surface marks are visible in either photograph — confirmed as my own independent finding.

These are new beads, crafted within the last twenty years from genuine natural agate. Not antique, not ancient, not faux-antique in design intent — three straightforward new dzi with a clean, high-contrast double wave motif and the warmth of natural honey-tan agate behind it.

The Double Wave Motif

The double wave (雙波紋, shuāng bō wén) in Tibetan dzi tradition symbolises the continuous, self-renewing flow of positive energy and fortune. Two waves meeting and interlocking represent the union of complementary forces — movement and rest, giving and receiving — resolved into a single balanced rhythm. On an elongated barrel form, the diagonal wrapping of the wave construction gives the motif a particular energy: the lines never stop, never return to where they started, simply continuing around the body of the bead. In Tibetan and Chinese folk belief, wave dzi are worn for harmony, continuity, and the easing of obstacles.
