The mountain motif is one of the most ancient and least common of all dzi configurations, and this bead carries it alongside the eye. One side presents the classic single eye, its white oval ring and dark centre looking outward with the quiet authority of something made to be worn close to the body for a lifetime. Turn it over and the mountain motif appears: the paired arch forms that have represented elevation, sanctuary, and spiritual protection across Himalayan and Central Asian traditions for a very long time.

This is an ancient dzi bead estimated at 1,500 to 2,000 years old, and its age is written into the surface. Under macro photography, the whole body shows dense micro-pitting, the kind of surface change that comes with great age. The white zones are no longer bright; they have settled into a warm, muted cream. The dark ground has deepened to an almost black-brown, rich and full.

Beyond its two motifs, the bead carries natural cinnabar bloodspots. In the macro photographs they appear as warm red-brown concentrations within the eye ring, scattered through the white stripe zones, and beneath the micro-pitted dark field. Bloodspot dzi are treasured across Tibetan, Chinese, and Southeast Asian collecting traditions for their beauty and auspicious red colour. The bead is torpedo-shaped with a slightly asymmetric taper, wider at one end and narrowing toward the drill tip, a natural asymmetry typical of hand-worked beads. Both drill holes are intact and aged. The surface along the ridge shows the fine micro-abrasion that builds up from long cord wear against skin. The patina is seamless across the whole surface.
